A variety of Encampments rotate on different days offering inspirationally different experiences in form and presentation. The Encampments include music, art, sculpture, clay play, theater, dance, musical stage, nature, spARTS ‘n games, journaling, poetry in motion, creative dramatics. The counselors, arts students and artists in their own right, are inspired guides in a wide spectrum of arts and nature and friendship adventures. Each cabin has an artist-in-cabin each week.
Through the art of imagination Henry David Thoreau is in residence in a small cabin on the shores of Walden “Pretend” Pond. Last summer the campers wrote to Mr. Thoreau. And he wrote back. This year Emily Dickinson and Ralph Waldo Emerson are taking up residence at The Emerson Inn down the road. They will be conducting a Lyceum with the campers along with Mr. Thoreau.
The camp philosophy is inspiration more than instruction. We are not working toward a production. Camp is the production and we are living it. The Campers are the stars. Windhover is the set. Ah, lovely Windhover.
There is an informal sharing show and gallery walk at the end of each week called a Friends & Family Fest. The Fest takes place on every Friday from 4:00-5:30.
Individual Cabin projects along with good ole' fashion summer camp shtick and stuff are on-going all week.
Every afternoon there is an All-Camp Event which spans the range of A Midsummer Night's Dream, A joust in the Forest Arden, A contra dance, An Opera in a Castle in Spain, Singing in the Rain under the Windhover Falls (water hose), A Comedy of Carnivals, and PIRATES! A Twig Foote, and Anne the Wisdom Tree, Storytelling with Bubbles and the Princess Meg. A Squeaky, Fluffy, and WALRUS Rumpus. Anything can happen!
